Privacy Policy
Day Recap is a private daily journal. This policy explains what the app stores, where it stays, and how Apple Health is used. The short version: everything you enter stays on your iPhone. We don't run servers for the app, we don't have accounts, and we don't collect, see, sell or share your data.
What Day Recap stores
When you log a day, Day Recap saves the following on your device:
- Your day rating (1–10)
- Optional mood, energy, productivity and diet scores (1–10)
- Optional sleep hours and whether you went to the gym
- Your diary text
- The names of people you choose to add, and which days they were part of
- Whether a day is starred, and your note about what made it special
- Your app preferences, such as your good-day threshold, week start, reminder time and appearance
The calendar, statistics and insights are calculated on your device from this information.
Where your data is kept
All of this data is stored in the app's private storage on your iPhone. Day Recap does not upload it anywhere. There is no Day Recap account, no cloud sync, and no server that receives your journal.
If you use iCloud Backup or back up your iPhone to a computer, iOS may include Day Recap's data in that device backup, as it does for most apps. Those backups are created and protected by Apple under your Apple Account settings; we have no access to them.
Apple Health
Connecting Apple Health is optional. Day Recap only asks for permission when you tap Connect Apple Health (during onboarding or in Settings).
- What it reads: sleep analysis and workouts. Nothing else.
- Why: to fill in the sleep hours and gym fields of your daily entry. A recorded workout marks the day as a gym day. You can change or clear these values at any time.
- What it writes: nothing. Day Recap never writes to Apple Health.
- Where it goes: the values you keep are saved in your journal on your device, like everything else. Health data is never sent off your device, never shared with anyone, and never used for advertising or marketing.
If you decline, Day Recap works fully and you can enter sleep and workouts yourself. You can change access at any time in the iPhone Settings app under Health › Data Access & Devices › Day Recap.
Notifications
If you turn on the evening reminder, Day Recap asks for permission to send notifications. The reminder is scheduled on your device by iOS and contains only a generic prompt, never your journal content. You can turn it off in Day Recap's Settings or in the iPhone Settings app.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
Day Recap contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking software, and it makes no network requests of its own. We do not track you across apps or websites.
Day Recap may occasionally show Apple's standard App Store rating prompt. That prompt is provided and handled by Apple.
Sharing
We don't share your data with anyone, because we never receive it.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You can edit any day at any time. Removing a person in Settings hides them from your lists, while days you already logged keep their history. Deleting Day Recap from your iPhone permanently deletes all of its data from the device. Data inside an existing iCloud or computer backup is managed by Apple and removed according to your backup settings.
Children
Day Recap is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If Day Recap's handling of data changes, for example if optional cloud sync is added in the future, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date above will change.
